Steroids hormones differ because these are derived from cholesterols in the gonads and adrenal glands and these are fat soluble substances. Its cell membrane is composed of phospholipid bilayer.

Steroid Hormone Mechanism of Action
1. First, they pass through the cell membrane of the target cell.
2. Then binds with a specific receptor in the cytoplasm.
3. The receptor bound steroid hormones go into the nucleus and unites to another specific receptor.
4. And the production of protein molecules was done by the steroid hormone-receptor complex.
Steroids hormones are categorized into 5 classes, these are: estrogens, androgens, progesterones, glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids.
• Androgen
Start off in the adrenal cortex and gonads
Primarily affects the function and maturation of the secondary sex organs.
• Estrogens
Adrenal cortex and gonads
For maturation and function of the female secondary sex organs.
• Progesterone
Placenta and ovaries
menstrual cycle and maintain pregnancy
• Glucocorticoids
Adrenal Cortex
Affects metabolism
• Mineralocorticoids
Adrenal Cortex
Watere and salt balance
